Worms – A city of ideas
The city of Worms. In the Middle Ages some disputes started here, others were settled. Worms has seen everything from family feud to a reform of the church.
You can discover a city where the Middle Ages are very much alive. Worms Cathedral is hard to miss. It was built at the highest point of the city. Take a step inside and visit this miracle of medieval architecture. And do not forget to take a look at the crypt of Worms Cathedral.
A must-see is the jewish quarter of Worms. The jewish community here was part of a vibrant hub in medieval times. The SchUM-cities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz were a place of knowledge, culture and commerce. Have a look at the places that were called “Jerusalem on the Rhine”. Jewish scholars from Worms are still honoured today. People come from all over the world to visit their graves on the Jewish Cemetery Worms (“Holy Sand”).
